13h agoGov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that nonprofit community-based health providers will be offering vaccines to the workers who helped feed residents during the pandemic.
The new initiative is part of the Roll Up Your Sleeve campaign and is aimed at bringing vaccines straight to the arms of bodega owners and food workers.
"Walk up, you don't even need an appointment. We'll bring it to the grocery stores. To the Latino community, to the Black community through community health providers,” said Cuomo.
Five pop-up sites will be set up in each borough to help distribute the vaccine to workers, including Urban Health Plan in the Bronx and Madison Square Boys and Girls Club in Brooklyn.
SOMOS Community Care will focus on grocery stores in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island while Urban Health Plan will focus on the Bronx.
Workers will also be able to visit these sites for walk-in appointments. Mission Society in Manhattan will be the first site to begin the operation on Saturday.
Starting on April 26, Urban Health Plan will also open its doors as a pop-up vaccination site for bodega and food workers in the Bronx.
