A New Jersey man says he discovered and reported the suspicious device that prompted a massive police response Wednesday evening in the Bronx neighborhood of Mott Haven.
The man, who gave his name as Frank, says he saw what turned out to be a pressure cooker next to his car around 5:10 p.m. under the Major Deegan Expressway overpass near Alexander Avenue and East 134th Street.
He says he then went over to the nearest police precinct a few blocks away, alerted a couple officers and showed them the device.
The NYPD's bomb squad opened the pressure cooker and found nothing inside. Police gave the all-clear at the scene around 7:20 p.m.
The NYPD says another suspicious device was found in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. The all-clear was also given at that scene.
