Vibrant and bold colors now adorn the front entrance of an arts and education center in Longwood.
Layqua Nuna Yawar is the artist behind the mural at the Casita Center for Arts and Education.
In his 10 years of working with schools and educational programs, Yawar has created over 30 murals - with many of them focusing on Latin culture and the migrant experience.
The mural showcases well-known entertainers, entrepreneurs and business leaders that have a connection to Brooklyn, as well as contributions from local Bronx residents.
The center provides arts, education and other services to more than 40,000 families each year. The executive director says it's important the center's mural inspires young people who walk through the doors.
Yawar says he's glad visitors can reflect on the body of work, especially during National Hispanic Heritage Month.
