Low-cost rapid COVID-19 testing is now more accessible across the city, thanks to a new testing program being rolled out by the state. 

Gov. Andrew Cuomo called it a big step in making it possible to reopen businesses and entertainment centers. 

A CVS in Morris Park is one of the first 11 initial sites that opened for rapid testing starting Friday as part of the state’s new program. 

It's part of Gov. Cuomo’s New York Forward Rapid Test Program. It will take place at select CVS, Quest Diagnostics and Clarity MedHealth mobile labs across New York City. 

The sites will be able to offer 5,000 rapid COVID tests per day, with additional sites slated to open around the city and other parts of the state in the coming weeks. 

The program aims to expand access to rapid testing, which would help businesses and parts of the entertainment sector reopen more safely. 

The governor’s office is reminding people that a negative test result doesn’t rule out the virus and people are encouraged to continue wearing masks and social distance. 

Appointments must be scheduled in advance and according to the program, testing is supposed to be available for no more than $30.
