An arson suspect appears to have been caught in the act in surveillance video obtained by News 12.

Six cars and the facade of an apartment building went up in flames early Tuesday morning in Soundview.

It was just after 1:40 a.m. when the man is first seen on camera the front of an apartment building on St. Lawrence Avenue with gasoline. Police say about 10 minutes later, 911 was called to the scene.

Another angle catches that man cross the street, gas can in hand, and walk up East 174th St. Moments later, more video appears to show the man using the can to soak one car before lighting it up and running off.

"The fire kept getting fueled by the gasoline and so all these cars caught fire," said Seymour Moreno, who lives in the neighborhood. "One after the other."

Police say that fire spread to six cars, adding that the front of the apartment building down the block was also burned.

Two people were hurt, according to the FDNY, including a 2-month-old baby. News 12 was told that baby is expected to recover, and the other person who was hurt was treated here at the scene.
