A Throgs Neck organization honored News 12 The Bronx with a special award at their fourth annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities luncheon.
The luncheon raises funds for college scholarships and brings awareness to the importance of higher education.
News 12 was honored with the Village Award, and reporter Lenneia Batiste received the STEAM Award for being an HBCU graduate who has had an impact on the Bronx community.
A total of five awards were given to community leaders. Organizers say they hope next year is just as successful.
The event was hosted at Marina del Rey by the Eta Omega Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Wheeler, Wilson & Johnson Community Projects tutoring service.
This is just one of many events both organizations hold throughout the year to raise money for its scholarship programs.
