The state Department of Environmental Conservation is holding two virtual public comment hearings on the Clovewood development on April 3.
The DEC says Brooklyn-based developer Keen Equities LLC is seeking permission to proceed with the project and has applied for three state permits to address issues with water usage, discharge and an endangered/threatened species found on the site on Clove Road.
The developer was previously fined $228,000 and issued stop work orders for various violations and allegedly doing construction without state approval.
Keen Equities LLC is proposing the use of 507,500 gallons of water a day, according to the DEC.
South Blooming Grove has experienced a surge in development in recent years amid a water crisis.
News 12 reported Clovewood had a total of nine violations as of March 2023 when the developer was cited by the state for allegedly using an unauthorized water dye to mask construction runoff that created the appearance of aqua blue and bright green water in a nearby lake and streams that feed into the Moodna Creek.
