NYC Ferry service resumed Sunday after nearly three weeks of suspended operations caused by icy conditions, transportation officials said.
Service was halted Jan. 27 after frigid temperatures led to heavy ice buildup on the East River, Hudson River and New York Harbor, creating unsafe conditions for ferry travel. During the suspension, commuters were forced to seek alternate transportation.
With temperatures now above freezing, conditions on the waterways have improved enough for ferries to return to normal service.
One rider said the disruption significantly affected her daily life, noting she was unable to visit her grandchildren because she does not use trains or buses.
Ferry officials said service will continue to operate on a weekend schedule through the Monday holiday and warned that some delays may persist as operations fully stabilize.
