Two truckloads of needed supplies will be going to storm-ravaged Puerto Rico as part of a citywide relief effort to help the countless families affected by Hurricane Maria.
Food Bank For New York City's shipment containing about 26,000 nonperishable items will help fill the shelves at Bienvenidos al Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico, the territory's main food bank.
The goods will be heading to John F. Kennedy International Airport this weekend and will be flown to Puerto Rico via JetBlue and Atlas Air free of charge.
Meanwhile, eight collection sites have been set up across the city for New Yorkers to help with the relief effort. Starting Saturday, the city food bank anticipates that hundreds of volunteers will descend on its loading docks to sort out items from the eight sites.
