NYC mayoral candidates hear from irked tenants about housing crisis

Bronx tenants voiced their concerns about the city’s housing crisis and heard how mayoral candidates plan to solve it.
People gathered on Sunday at the Wendell Foster Park and Recreation Center in Highbridge for a forum organized by the group Community Action for Safe Apartments, or C.A.S.A.
Tenants told News 12 that their rents are increasing on an average of 10% and most of them can’t afford it.
Fitzroy Christian said he lives near Jerome Avenue in Morris Heights, and while the 79-year-old admitted he’s lucky to live in a rent-stabilized apartment, others aren’t as fortunate.
“My friends are gone,” Christian said. “They’re in Florida, they’re down south because their families cannot afford to keep them here.”

Candidates in attendance included Zohran Mamdani, Zellnor Myrie and Michael Blake.
