Reorganization is coming to the city's Department of Education, according to Schools Chancellor David Banks.

Banks announced today that the idea is to focus on the DOE's top priority program, NYC Reads. The program launched this school year and is meant to create strong readers starting in early childhood through the "creative curriculum."

The DOE is dissolving the Division of Teaching and Learning into the Division of School Leadership.

Banks says this will not result in a reduction of staff but will bring education experts closer to districts to accelerate the implementation of NYC Reads. According to Banks, teachers have embraced the program.

More reorganization efforts will be coming.
