New Yorkers look to beat scorching temps; cooling centers and pools open

City pools are now all open. Their hours start at 11 a.m. and they stay open all the way through 7 p.m. with a one-hour break at 3 p.m. for cleaning. The city park-run pools are all free to get into.

As the days go on and the heat and humidity increases, there are some free ways to stay safe and cool.
City pools are now all open. Their hours start at 11 a.m. and they stay open all the way through 7 p.m. with a one-hour break at 3 p.m. for cleaning. The city park-run pools are all free to get into.
If you just need to get inside somewhere to cool down, the city will also have over 200 cooling centers open across the boroughs at schools, community centers and senior centers. 
They offer air-conditioned rooms for people if they just need to get out of the heat for a little while.
They recommend you call ahead to make sure there's space and that they're open because the hours are different for each of the cooling centers.
