A new partnership between the Public Housing Community Fund, NYCHA and AT&T is now bringing a digital literacy program to the Wycoff Gardens Houses.
The program teaches digital literacy and is running for 10 weeks.
With a $50,000 contribution from AT&T, residents in NYCHA developments between the ages of 16-24 have had the chance to engage in the free program in partnership with Soulful Synergy.
"I don't really find it challenging, I just find it fun,” said program attendee Lydia Cintron. “They provide us with more than I expected. I just thought we were going to sit down, maybe be boring. But then when I came, I learned how to do things I didn't know how to do.”
Week to week, students will take a deep dive taking part in critical literacy skills through comprehensive training and then connect them with resident leaders to complete a series of tech projects at select NYCHA developments. These skills will connect residents and address communication issues through technology.
AT&T gave out 30 laptops at a kickoff event Thursday and expects to give out 4,000 laptops across the area.
