Police say 11 people are now in their custody after a protest last night calling for justice in the death of Jordan Neely, the man who was held in a chokehold and died on a subway last week.
The situation has sparked outrage all across the city leading activists, advocates and New Yorkers to fill the streets in protest. Police say the latest rally happened Monday night at Broadway and Lafayette when things got out of hand.
According to the NYPD, 150 protestors took to the street expressing their concerns a week after Jordan Neely, a homeless New Yorker and street performer, was killed in a subway car.
The NYPD says multiple violations were made, including protesting without a sound permit and disorderly conduct. They say they gave multiple warnings to stop the behavior before making those arrests that included a journalist, who they claim interfered with three arrests.
A Molotov cocktail was found on the ground but was not attached to any particular protester, officers say.
Police made it clear that they respect the right to protest but will not tolerate people breaking the law. Officers were eventually able to calm the crowd and a peaceful protest followed.
