New York City Council Member Inna Vernikov was arrested on Friday for bringing a gun to a pro-Palestinian protest near the Brooklyn College campus, police say.
News 12 is told that the butt of the gun was seen sticking out from the front of her pants as she stood with counter-protesters on Thursday afternoon.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the Republican, who represents southern Brooklyn, turned herself in on Friday morning.
Authorities say her permit and the handgun, which she is licensed to possess, were also surrendered.
Vernikov has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm, according to authorities.
Gov. Kathy Hochul responded to the incident on Twitter, stating that “gun safety laws apply to everyone."
