The NYPD took more than 200 illegal bikes and mopeds off the streets this weekend.
Some residents said they’re all for the two-tire takedown.
“They’re doing the right thing, I think,” said Leannah Camp, of Mott Haven.
“Mopeds, e-bikes running on the streets, running on the sidewalks,” said Angel Vega, of Mott Haven.
NYPD officials showed part of their recent operation including targeting illegally registered e-bikes and mopeds, as well as bikes that are legally registered but illegally parked on sidewalks.
The NYPD said the crackdown took place between March 6 and March 9.
Breakdown of the 210 seizures:
- 59 in the Bronx
- 39 in Manhattan South.
- 45 in Manhattan North
- 67 in Queens North
Police said the effort came after receiving a number of 311 complaints.
Residents said the bikes cause safety concerns, both in the streets and on sidewalks.
“[Riders] don’t really pay attention to the people that are crossing the street,” Camp said.
“I almost came close to them,” said Vega. “I tell them, ‘Be careful because if you hit me, then who is going to pay me if I get injured?”
