The state government has selected a local nonprofit to lead the Bronx anti-gun violence initiative.
Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner secured $225,000 in funding for New Settlement through the governor's office. She says the money will be used to provide services and structured programming to local children to keep them off the streets.
The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club and the Northeast YMCA will also be collaborating on the initiative.
Allison Palmer, the associate executive director of New Settlement, says she hopes this funding continues into the future and that the nonprofit plans to look for matching funds.
