A FedEx cargo plane made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport Saturday morning, according to the Port Authority.

It happened just after 8 a.m.

A FedEx Communications Specialist says FedEx Flight 3609 from Newark was heading to Indianapolis.

FAA officials say the plane hit a bird while they departed and damaged one engine on the Boeing 767. The agency says it will investigate.

The crew declared an emergency and returned safely to Newark, according to FedEx.

News 12 received several videos from people in Elizabeth showing the plane fully engulfed in flames.

No one was injured.

Air traffic was briefly stopped as a precaution, but operations have since resumed, according to Port Authority officials.

The FAA says the plane remains disabled on the runway.

FedEx released a statement following the emergency landing:

"The training, expertise, and professionalism demonstrated by our FedEx pilots was exemplary. We are thankful for the quick actions of our crew and first responders."
