A fight that broke out at Garden State Plaza Mall Saturday caused shoppers to panic out of fear that it was a shooting.
Paramus police say the fight resulted in the arrest of two people from Paterson. They say they arrested 25-year-old Alexander Nieves and a 17-year-old.
Police say they saw a fight in the food court that involved men in ski masks who threw chairs, punched and stomped 26-year-old victim who is also from Paterson.
This latest incident was the third in two months that caused panic among shoppers. A similar incident happened at the same mall in April when a fight in the food court prompted shoppers to believe it was a shooting.
Stores went into lockdown in that incident. In another April incident, a man suffered life-threatening injuries at a shooting at the American Dream Mall at the Meadowlands.
Police say the conflict started in the parking garage and ended inside the mall with the shooting, which caused evacuations. Anwar Stuart, of Brooklyn, was arrested in that incident.
