Parents and their children are calling the shutdown of all New York City schools to in-person learning Thursday a setback - but that it was bound to happen.

Over the past month, the city reported 2,306 COVID-19 cases in schools among staff and students. In the past seven days, there have been 7,790 cases - almost four times as much in one-fourth the amount of time.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that many cases are tracing back to places that serve alcohol, and that is why he ordered bars and restaurants to close early.

Parents now need to settle in on a plan until at least after Thanksgiving or even longer if the city's cumulative positivity rate stays over 3%.
