Four pedestrian islands are being built on East Tremont Avenue in Westchester Square to help ease the flow of traffic and improve safety.
Martin Prince, the chairman of Community Board 10, says the area has been waiting for years for upgrades along the busy corridor.
He says there were concerns that the newly constructed islands would make it difficult for buses and trucks to turn, but that has so far not been the case.
The medians are expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks.
