Planned Parenthood of Greater New York held a community outreach event on Sunday in Morningside Heights.
It aimed to educate New Yorkers about their rights in anticipation of a ruling from a federal judge in Texas that could limit access to medical abortions.
The ruling could remove the abortion pill mifepristone from store shelves across the country.
Planned Parenthood of Greater New York says it will continue to provide New Yorkers with safe access to medical abortions.
“It’s sending a message to the country that even though it’s an attack happening in Texas, New York is going to do whatever they can do to continue to have access to abortion and medical abortion. We’re not going to back down,” said Nicole Margiasso, the director of organizing for Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.
A ruling has not been made but organizers say they will be continuing their outreach through canvasing to ensure people are aware their rights and access to abortion.
