Police: Man arrested for fleeing officer at traffic stop, driving with 40 suspensions

According to police, Jemel M. Edwards was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima eastbound on Route 27 Service Road, when he was pulled over at Broadway Avenue for speeding.

Police: Man arrested for fleeing officer at traffic stop, driving with 40 suspensions
Police say a man has been arrested for unlawfully fleeing an officer at a traffic stop in Sayville and driving with 40 suspensions.
According to police, Jemel M. Edwards was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima eastbound on Route 27 Service Road, when he was pulled over at Broadway Avenue for speeding at 10:55 p.m.
Police say as the officer got out of his patrol car, Edwards sped away, heading southbound on Nicolls Road. The officer did not pursue in his vehicle but radioed the information to dispatch.
Shortly afterward, officers responded to a 911 call regarding an incident on Terrace Road in Bayport.
When officers arrived, they observed the Nissan parked nearby, located Edwards, and arrested him.
Upon further investigation, it was determined he had 40 suspensions on his driver’s license.
Edwards, 35, of Deer Park, was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, operating a vehicle without an interlock device, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, as well as eight other NYS vehicle and traffic violations.
