A man is in critical condition after being attacked with a baseball bat in Tremont, according to police.

It happened early Friday morning on East 175 Street.

Police say the 31-year-old got into an argument with another man, which ended with him getting hit multiple times with a baseball bat.

Police said the victim sustained severe fractures to his face and head.

The victim's cousin identified him to News 12 as Edwar Hidalgo.

He said the family isn't quite sure of the details, but one neighbor, who asked not to be identified, told News 12 the fight was over a woman Hildago was trying to help.

"She said she had a problem with the guy. He was riding the scooter around the sidewalk. And she just asked them what was going on, where he’s going," he said. "He starts screaming at her and swinging on her, and she tried to defend herself."

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is being asked to call police.
