A suspect has been arrested for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Friday in Perth Amboy, according to police.
Authorities say Gladis Ruiz was crossing Elm Street on her way home from work when the driver of a Hyundai Sonata struck her and then left the scene. She was hospitalized and later pronounced dead.
Officers apprehended Jarleidys Bautista the next day, according to police. He faces charges including second-degree leaving the scene of an accident and third-degree endangering an injured victim.
Authorities say he is being held at the Middlesex County Correctional Center awaiting a detention hearing.
