The newest construction project that could be coming to Mott Haven would convert a parking lot into a source of affordable homes and community events.
The city-owned parking lot could be a big help in the ongoing affordable housing crisis, bringing in 90 new units to what would be an all-electric building aimed at reducing New York City’s carbon footprint.
High-quality, sustainable and affordable – those are the boxes this new set of affordable housing units are looking to check off.
There’s also plans to add community art and culture programming and job training as part of the project. This would be in tandem with the 4,000-square foot theater in the project that can seat 150 people.
According to the city’s Office of Housing Preservation and Development, the housing units will range from “extremely low-income households” to those for people who earn 80% of the median income.
HPD says the next step for this project will be the public approvals process, followed by financing before construction.
