Two borough presidents are the latest in a growing list of New York officials
to call for Gov. Andrew Cuomo's resignation.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Manhattan Borough President Gale
Brewer released a joint statement Saturday, saying in part: “New York needs a
leader with integrity and which all New Yorkers have confidence. We cannot
condone this behavior and don’t believe that government can work effectively
amid, nor should it try to work around, such a serious situation.”
The calls for Cuomo's resignation come as seven women have accused the governor
of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior.
Cuomo has repeatedly denied the allegations and apologized if he ever made anyone
uncomfortable.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has said it has become impossible for
Cuomo to govern New York during the crisis while dealing with investigations.
Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand also have called for the governor to
resign.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Staten Island Borough President
James Oddo have yet to address the situation.
