New Yorkers rallied at City Hall Park to call on the mayor's office and the Department of Transportation to follow through on their promises made in the 2019 Streets Plan.

Those at the rally say that 20 new miles of protected bus lanes were supposed to be implemented by the end of 2022 under the plan, but that what has been done hasn't come close.

The City Council held a hearing on Tuesday asking for an explanation as to why certain changes have yet to be made. That includes adding those 20 miles of protected bus lanes, upgrading bus stops and changing transit signals to make intersections safer for all commuters.

Organizers say traffic has only increased and that bus arrival speeds have declined since the COVID-19 pandemic.
