A group of organizations dedicated to folk and traditional art have developed a COVID-19 relief fund to support artists who are struggling.
Folk and traditional artists sing, dance, paint and express their heritage in many ways. While there are several relief efforts fort artists, the Folk Arts COVID-19 Relief Fund wants to make sure these artists aren't forgotten.
Officials say while there is an obvious financial hit, it has also been a huge spiritual loss as well.
Valentina Kvasova plans to apply for the fund and say she's been trying to give and take lessons virtually.
"It doesn't matter which nationality it is, folk music has a very unique power on everybody," says Kvasova.
The relief fund is a GoFundMe started by the Center For Art Tradition and Cultural Heritage. It is open to all New York City artists in the category.
They are looking to give $500 each to 20-25 groups. Artists can begin applying this week that is available in many languages.
