Residents at the Butler Houses in Morrisania are asking for help to end violence around their neighborhood.
They say crimes, like shootings and stabbings, have been constant for the past few years and they don't feel safe.
In a detailed letter, residents and Rep. Ritchie Torres are demanding immediate action from government officials.
"I'm calling upon the NYPD and the mayor's office to create a plan specifically for addressing the persistent gun violence here." said Rep. Torres.

Residents are calling for programs to address gun violence and more events in the community that can help prevent residents from looking over their shoulder.
The mayor's office said that over the last two years, the administration has taken numerous actions to decrease crime across the city and has seen seven straight months of decreases in crime.
It said that it will continue to work with its partners to eradicate gun violence and keep new Yorkers safe.
