Residents at 1212 University Ave. say they are constantly looking over their shoulders following a fatal stabbing in their building last Friday.
Tyrone Quick, 49, was fatally stabbed inside of the apartment building. Police say the incident happened because of a noise complaint, but residents argue that was not the case.
Residents say Quick’s alleged killer had a history of violence, and that earlier that week they overheard him say he would kill someone. Quick was not a resident in the building but was coming to visit a friend when he was stabbed.
“He was very sweet, always said hello. Everybody knew him,” said resident and community activist Agnes Johnson. “Everybody knew him, he didn’t live here but was always respectful. It’s a shame he had to go out that way.”
The NYPD charged 65-year-old Jose Ortiz with manslaughter in the stabbing. He is in custody.
