A new affordable housing proposal has residents concerned that their won't be any parking left in the neighborhood.
Volmar Construction has proposed to build a six-story, 36-unit affordable housing building at a lot on the corner of White Plains Road and Thwaites Place. Residents say parking is already a big problem on Thwaites Place and the surrounding areas.
"This community cannot withstand another 50 cars," says Domonick Schiano.
Residents also say that the prices they've seen for living in the building aren't affordable.
Councilman Ritchie Torres says that they are now waiting for the developer to come back with the proposal.
"We made it clear to them that something's got to give," says Torres. "There has to be some parking, improvement to infrastructure..."
Torres will have some influence over the construction considering that this type of development requires city funding, which is subject to City Council approval.
News 12 has reached out to Volmar Construction about the proposal, but it has yet to respond.
