A busy intersection in Riverdale has Bronx residents doing double takes when they cross the street.

Cars regularly blow right past the stop sign at the intersection of W. 235th Street and Oxford Avenue. The bustling corner has a Walgreens, a Key Foods grocery store and dozens of other local businesses.

It’s something Community Board 8 is trying to get fixed after one of their own board members was narrowly run over while crossing there.

“A car came and almost hit me,” recounted CB8 board member Sylvia Alexander at a Traffic & Transportation Committee meeting on Feb. 20. “The [New York City Department of Transportation] came a couple of times, they turned us down for a light … Someone is going to get killed there and I hope it’s not me.”

CB 8 told News 12 the board plans to discuss the issue at its next Traffic & Transportation Committee meeting on Thursday March 20, 2025, and to contact DOT to add more safety measures. Members of the public are welcome to attend and comment on this issue.

News 12 contacted DOT and is awaiting a response.
