Bronx residents laced up their shoes Saturday for a September 11th memorial run on Pelham Parkway to raise money for a widow and orphan fund.

As the five-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks approaches, participants in the 9/11 Thomas Clesse Memorial Run say they continue to contribute the $15 registration fee because there is no time limit on giving. The 5K run was originally named for Lieutenant Thomas Clesse, a 32-year veteran of the 49th Precinct, who died of cancer. Now, the event also celebrates the thousands who perished in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Before the race started, Virginia artist Henry Kidd was made an honorary member of the 49th Precinct. Kidd has handed out hundreds of memorial prints to New York fire and police departments. He also plans to hand out prints to departments that responded to the attack on the Pentagon.
