New Jersey's democratic U.S. senators released a joint statement condemning the use of a bulldozer at an India Day Parade in Edison.
Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker say that their "offices met with leaders and members of New Jersey's South Asian community who were angered and deeply hurt by the inclusion of a bulldozer in the India Day Parade in Edison last month."
The statement continued, arguing the "bulldozer has come to be a symbol of intimidation against Muslims and other religious minorities in India, and its inclusion in this event was wrong."
Many argue that the bulldozer symbolizes the demolition of Muslim homes in India.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
