A group of seniors in Crown Heights are pleading with the Department of Transportation for a crosswalk. Rosalyn Johnson says she has been fighting for a crosswalk at the intersection of Albany Avenue and Prospect Place for years. The busy intersection is always filled with cars and is also the spot where seniors who live in the Albany Houses walk across the street to enter their senior center. Many of the members use walkers and wheelchairs, and others do not see or hear well. "They forgot about us on Albany Avenue," says Johnson. "We are still trying to get this crosswalk put in so we can come to the center, instead of going all the way down." In order to cross the street to get from the Albany Houses to the senior center, they have to walk down the street - a distance too far for many of the seniors. Some say they have to jaywalk in fear instead of walking that far. In October, News 12 brought these concerns to the Department of Transportation. It said that it was "reviewing this location for safety upgrades." Over a month later, residents say they've seen no progress on the crosswalk.
