The president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association sharply criticized NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea Monday, alleging that a spike in crime is happening on his watch without enough action to stop it.
SBA President Ed Mullins made the remarks as he addressed religious leaders and law enforcement professionals at a church in Belmont.
Mullins and community activists claim the city is in a state of emergency due to a citywide spike in crime.
Mullins says they cannot sit silently any longer when it comes to addressing the rise in crime. As an example, he mentioned a recent attack where a man went on a stabbing spree that led to the death of two people on the A train last week.
Mullins even called for the removal of the police commissioner.
News 12 reached out to the NYPD for comment and is waiting to hear back.
