Services were held Saturday to remember a volunteer firefighter that tragically died in a fire at his Thornwood home.
Officials say Sean Caroll, 26, was sleeping in the home's basement when it caught fire just before 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Fire Chief James Gedris was on duty when the call came in and says he immediately recognized the address.
Caroll was remembered as a friendly and bright young man who began his career at the age of 16 as a member of the Junior Corps.
Friends say he dedicated his life to public safety just as his father and brother have done. His father is a police sergeant in Rye Brook.
The Rye Brook Police Benevolent Association created an online fundraiser where donations have exceeded $100,000.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, however, officials say they aren't ruling out the possibility that the blaze was electric-related.
