The owner of a Sheepshead Bay staple has placed 13 American flags in front of his restaurant in honor of the 13 Americans killed in Kabul.
Eddie Sullivan, owner of Brennan and Carr, says he wanted to place the flags on the corner of Nostrand and Avenue U because he says it gets a lot of traffic.
Sullivan comes from a military family, his father served, and several members of his family were deployed to Afghanistan during the war.
He says it is important for him to place this reminder outside his restaurant in honor of the latest Americans lost in the country’s longest war.
The flags came from volunteer firemen who did a fundraiser.
Sullivan tells News 12 that regardless of how you feel about President Joe Biden’s handling of the withdrawal, the country has to remember its heroes.
“We support our president, whoever our president is,” Sullivan says. “As Americans, we support them and our servicemen. Whether you believe in the cause or not, we are Americans and that’s what we have to do.”
He says he hopes the flags will be a reminder to think of the families.
“Our heart goes out to them, “Sullivan says. “That’s all that it’s for.”
Brennan and Carr always prides itself on flying an American flag on its roof.
Since news of the deaths of the service members in Afghanistan, the flag has been at half- staff.
