Sheriff: 350 pounds of THC/cannabis products seized from Bronx grow house

The New York City’s Sheriff’s Office said they shut down an illegal grow house after they confiscated more than 350 pounds of marijuana products.
The raid happened on Friday at 967 Longfellow Avenue off Garrison Avenue, which is located across the street from the Bronx Charter School for the Arts.
Parents who picked up their children from the school’s theatre rehearsal on Saturday said they were just learning about the drug bust.
“That’s crazy, and it’s kind of shocking,” said Angel Vasquez, a father.
“Absolutely concerning,” said one mother who asked not to be identified. “It was alarming enough when they had to shut down the street and there were a lot of police out here.”
The sheriff’s office said they confiscated contraband that included cannabis plants and flower, THC edibles with packages that targeted children, as well as illegal mushrooms.
The school’s facilities manager, Daniel Diaz, called the discovery disturbing.
“Nobody had any idea what was going on in there,” Diaz said. “There were people coming in and out, and we thought it had become an apartment for someone because they were here at all times.”
Diaz said more than 250 elementary school students play in the dead-end street during recess, and that’s when he’d usually see two men and two women.
“[The four adults were] very rowdy, feisty,” said Diaz. “They were not patient with the kids, and when we asked them to wait a little, they didn’t care. Some of them just got on the sidewalk and drove off [in their cars].”
The sheriff’s office said the illegal grow house was found when the city’s marshal’s office and Con Edison tried to repossess the building’s gas and electric meter.
The location received several violations from the city and Con Ed.
The sheriff’s office told News 12 that they did not find anyone inside of the building at the time, but the investigation is ongoing.
