Small businesses suffer from postponed baseball season
Shops and restaurants across the city are losing business after the baseball season was postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
Ballpark Sport Shop was geared up for the Yankees’ opening day to sell jerseys and other merchandise. However, employees say the postponed season has kept customers away.
Yankee Tavern, a bar located right around Yankee Stadium, says the lack of customers is also hitting them hard. Owners say they are struggling to pay for their rent, products and their employees.
One sign of relief are the loans and grants the government is working to offer help to small business to offset costs for the time being.
The 161 Street Improvement District is working to get the information from the businesses to get them the financial support they need as the season continues to be delayed.
