Some New Jersey schools, colleges canceling or going remote Thursday due to unhealthy air quality

The air quality still remains at hazardous levels Thursday in New Jersey.

Smoke and hazy conditions in New Jersey have some school districts either closing schools or going remote. The air quality still remains at hazardous levels Thursday.
On Wednesday, school districts kept students indoors. So far, Elizabeth, Orange, Union Township and Newark school districts are closed Thursday. Some districts are giving parents the option or having early dismissal.
Health officials are urging people to stay inside Thursday. Officials have also strongly recommended wearing masks if you must be outside.

School closures for Thursday:

  • City of Orange
  • Elizabeth Public Schools
  • Highland Highschool
  • Newark Public Schools
  • Sinai Christian Academy in Linden
  • Timber Creek Highschool
  • Triton Highschool 
  • People's Prep Charter School-Newark
  • Precious Angels Daycare Center in Hillside
  • Union Township

School closures for Friday:

  • Sinai Christian Academy in Linden

Early dismissal for Thursday:

  • Chancellor Academy in Pompton Plains has an early release at noon.
  • Clifton Public Schools
  • Hamilton Township School District
  • Hanover Park Regional in East Hanover is using an early release schedule.
  • Precious Angels Learning Center in Yardville has an early release at 12:30 p.m.
  • West Orange
  • Wayne

Remote learning for Thursday:

  • Fairleigh Dickinson University
  • Hudson County College in Jersey City
  • Kean University
  • Stevens Institute
