South Brunswick officials warn residents of rabid bat found in town
South Brunswick officials say that a bat with rabies has been discovered in the town.
A resident’s dog captured the bat on May 14. Animal Control brought the bat in for testing and discovered that it had rabies. Officials say that this is the third rabid animal found in Middlesex County this year – the first for the township.
Residents are being urged to report any wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior.
Symptoms of animals showing signs of having rabies include: moving slowly, appearing sick, acting aggressively, difficulty moving and excessive salvia.
Residents should avoid any contact with animals showing these signs of behavior. Residents should also watch out for their pets or children who are outdoors.
Anyone who sees an animal that they believe to be acting strangely should contact South Brunswick Police at 732-329-4646.
