Staples High honors longtime Westport PAL football coach

After every Westport PAL youth football game, Coach Scott Turkel used to award a brick to the player who anchored the team, did their job and was a leader.
The idea behind it was that flashy plays don't lead to wins, but being a good teammate and supporting the team does.
Roles reversed Friday night when a host of Turkel's former players, now suiting up for Staples High School, awarded him with a brick during an emotional pregame ceremony. It included a video tribute.
Turkel coached PAL youth football in Westport for nearly two decades and has dealt with health issues.
