Leaders and students gathered
at City Hall Park today to demand more from the city and mayor when it comes to
vulnerable students.
Leaders of three charter transfer high schools
say they’ve allegedly been denied access to the city’s “Learn to Work” grant
program.
The institutions include Urban Dove, New Dawn and John V. Lindsay
Wildcat.
News 12 is told the program would fund community-based
organizations to enable partnerships with transfer schools and provide students
with important non-academic services.
The grants are accessible to all transfer
schools citywide, expect a handful of charter transfer high schools because
they’re deemed public charter schools.
The charter transfer high school officials are
calling on the mayor, City Council
speakers and mayoral candidates to deliver fair funding to their students.
