State police: Impaired 19-year-old driver reached 109 mph on Route 8
An impaired 19-year-old Barkhamsted man drove over 100 mph on Route 8 north overnight, state police say.
Jack Reynolds was pulled over by police in Harwinton just after 1 a.m. Thursday.
Police were conducting a speed enforcement check when they noticed Reynolds was driving 109 in a 65-mph zone
While speaking with Reynolds, an officer noticed he was intoxicated. Reynolds was asked to perform a sobriety test which he failed, authorities say.
Following the arrest, police found a large knife with a blade over seven inches long in the vehicle.
Reynolds is facing several charges include weapon in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs under 21 years old.
Reynolds was released on bond and is expected to appear in Torrington Superior Court on Nov. 14.
