New York State Police officials say they are increasing patrols for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Motorists are being put on alert to expect more DWI checkpoints on the roads. Authorities say they are also targeting the illegal sale of alcohol to minors.
More than 180 people were arrested for DWI violations this time last year, and more than 10,000 tickets were handed out.
In addition to fines and jail time, DWI violators could also lose their driving privileges.
