The supermarket chain Stop & Shop has announced plans to close 10 stores in New Jersey and 32 in the Northeast.
The grocery chain is closing stores as part of its strategy to "position the company for growth," according to a release.
News 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo is outside the Inman Avenue location in Edison and says it appears to still be open for now.
Stores closing by year's end:
- Inman Ave., Edison
- Route 1 South, Edison
- Route 9, Howell
- Route 22, Phillipsburg
- Paterson Avenue, Carlstadt
- Route 27, Franklin
- Skyline Drive, Ringwood
- Richmond Avenue, Pt. Pleasant
- W. County Line, Jackson
As for employees, the company said it will offer jobs at other supermarket locations to workers whose stores will close, so the opportunity to continue working is apparently available.
The stores will close by the end of 2024.
