Overnight storms rolled into Atlantic Highlands, sending trees onto homes and across roads all while leaving thousands of customers without power.
A huge tree fell on top of a home on Grand Avenue. Crews were trying to remove the tree almost branch by branch.
Numerous side streets in the area were closed because of the downed poles and wires. At the height of the storm, a JCP&L spokesperson said 75,000 customers lost power. Crews worked through the night and continued through Tuesday.
"So we have had quite a few storms that have come through," says JCP&L Spokesperson Chris Hoenig. "They've certainly kept our crews busy. With this storm, we are calling in some additional crews. We have some coming from Pennsylvania and our crews that are normally stationed up in our northern Jersey service area are coming down to Central Jersey as well.”
Several elementary schools were closed in Atlantic Highlands because of the damage and road closures.
JCP&L said they are still assessing all the damage and poles that need replacing, and it may be hours until power is fully restored in the area.
