WHAT TO KNOW
  • The story is slippery pavement from snow melt yesterday and the bitter cold today.
  • Minor accumulating snow possible Tuesday morning.
  • These are our coldest December temperatures in two years.
  • Monday morning is a few degrees colder, then conditions improve.
  • Stray snow or rain shower Tuesday morning, then quiet.
Untreated pavement is icy today. Temperatures will remain below freezing all day. We could see snowflakes on Christmas Eve.
Yesterday's storm brought rare December snow, and the snow melted from Saturday afternoon has created icy patches on untreated surfaces that will last through Monday.
Temperatures this morning are in the teens, but it feels like it's nearly 0F. Afternoon conditions don't improve much. Despite sunshine, highs will only reach the mid 20s, and with a breeze it will feel like it's in the mid teens. Tonight, the winds calm down. This will encourage temperatures to drop even more for Monday morning. A few spots outside of urban areas will drop into the single digits.
Clouds approach Monday along with more typical December temperatures. Afternoon temperatures will jump to near freezing, but icy patches will remain on shade covered surfaces & some refreezing will happen overnight Monday.
A weak disturbance could bring a rain or snow shower on Tuesday morning. Little to no accumulation is expected and the rest of Christmas Eve is seasonable with some sun.
The week ends with quiet conditions and milder temperatures. Morning temperatures are near or above freezing and afternoon highs will return to the 40s by next weekend. Rain showers and mild conditions are expected for the start of the new year.
